Awareness programmes on H1N1

Government departments, local bodies and voluntary organisations are conducting meetings, training programmes and rallies across the city to create awareness on H1N1 and dengue.

An H1N1 awareness walk was organised on Sunday by Sree Abirami Hospital and Rotary Clubs of Coimbatore.

P. Periyaswamy, Managing Director of Sree Abirami Hospital, demonstrated the prevention measures and urged those taking part to spread awareness about them. R. Senthilkumar, Consultant Laparoscopic and surgical gastroenterologist, said that the spread of this influenza can be prevented by simple steps such as covering nose and mouth with a tissue while when coughing.

Rotary District Governor Venugopalan Menon, presidents, secretaries and members of all 15 Rotary Clubs of Coimbatore participated in the walk.

CRPF personnel

S. Somasundaram, Deputy Director of Health Services, conducted a training programme here recently on H1N1 and dengue prevention for Central Reserve Police Force personnel.

As many as 250 personnel from the CRPF 77 Battalion took part.

The personnel were trained in proper hand-washing techniques and others methods to prevent them from getting infected.

Another training programme was held for 175 personnel of the Rapid Action Force 105 Battalion stationed at Vellalore on Thursday. P.P. Pauly, Commandant, took part, according to a press release.

Corporation

The Coimbatore Corporation has started organising street plays across the city to conduct awareness on H1N1 and dengue among public.

According to sources, the civic body has hired a street play troupe that has been holdings shows in various areas in the city but more in areas that have been identified vulnerable.

They say that the civic body has asked the troupe to stage plays in Rathinapuri, Gandhipuram, Ukkadam, Vadavalli, Kurichi, K.K. Pudur and a few other areas that have been identified risk-prone.

The move is in addition to the Corporation sending surveillance teams to check people for fever, give medicines and educate public.
