Judge of the Madras High Court and Portfolio Judge for Coimbatore Justice P. Jyothimani on Wednesday exhorted the lawyers to refrain from resorting to boycotts as it caused hardships to people.
Justice Jyothimani was speaking at a function organised to lay the foundation stone for the District Munsif cum Judicial Magistrate Court building at Mettuppalayam at a cost of Rs. 178.70 lakhs.
The 11,948-sq ft building would have a provision to add two more floors.
Mr. Jyothimani said that fighting for rights was acceptable but the methods adopted matter.
Judge of Madras High Court Justice A. Arumughaaswamy said that the Mettuppalayam court was established in 1954 and had witnessed many interesting cases.
He recalled the days when he had appeared in the court as a lawyer.
Minister for Law Esakki Subaya said that the motto of the State Government was to take every possible step to ensure easy access to justice for the common man.
The Minister said that the Government would ensure that clashes did not occur on court premises.
Principal District Sessions Judge G. Chockalingam; president of the Mettuppalayam Bar Association N.N. Shanmugam; its Secretary R.A. Kanakasuntharam; Chairman of the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry D. Selvam; Chief Judicial Magistrate M. Sreenivasan; attended the function.
