Recent visits by Mayor S.M. Velusamy and Corporation Commissioner G. Latha to a few foreign countries have now led the civic body authorities to mull over proposals to improve Avanashi and Trichy Roads to international standard.

According to sources in the Coimbatore Corporation, the authorities are considering taking up development works on both sides of the Avanashi and Trichy Roads. For Avanashi Road it will be the 10 km stretch starting from the Avanashi Road flyover. Likewise, for the Trichy Road, it will be the stretch from the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.

On the two stretches, the Corporation has planned to build ducts. On one side, the duct will carry power and telephone cables with adequate spacing and on the other, water supply and gas pipelines. Plus, the Corporation will install signboards, install features that will make it easy for tourists to navigate and modify bus shelters.

The sources say that the Corporation will study a proposal the Chennai Corporation has prepared in this regard. The Chennai Corporation has reportedly taken up a few roads to bring them on a par with international standard.

The Coimbatore Corporation will study the proposal, modify it to suit local conditions and then implement the same. But not before forming a committee for the purpose.

Commissioner G. Latha says that the Corporation will invite suggestions from the City Technical Advisory Group (C-TAG) before embarking on the project.
