Coimbatore has gone a notch up in its luxury offerings. German luxury car manufacturer Audi has opened a showroom in the city.

The 6,102 sq.ft. showroom on Avanashi Road has a display area to accommodate six cars. The outlet will also have an Audi shop and Audi Exclusive elements, where customers can order customised products and purchase Audi branded products, according to a release.

Michael Perschke, Head, Audi India, told presspersons at the inauguration of the showroom here on Friday that Audi was expanding its national footprint and this was the second Audi outlet in Tamil Nadu. Audi sold 5,511 cars in the country last year and hoped to sell minimum 8,000 cars in 2012. Between January and March this year, 2,269 Audi cars were sold in the country.

The 45 per cent growth would come with expansion of its product line in the country, expansion of network, and increase in manpower.

In States such as Maharashtra and the National Capital Region, Audi had three dealers.

It has sold nine models in the country now. Majority of its investments in the country would come from the dealers this year. The company planned to have 25 dealerships in the country by the end of 2012 from its existing 18 centres.
