Attack on writer condemned

February 28, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - COIMBATORE:

A host of rationalist and progressive organisations under the ‘Confederation of Organisations for Protection of Freedom of Expression’ banner came together here on Friday to condemn the attack on writer Puliyur Murugesan.

The Confederation has planned a wall poster campaign and a demonstration in front of Red Cross Society Buildings here on March 4.

The members said that the continuous assault on writers would sound the death knell for Tamil literature. The attack on Mr. Murugesan was the latest after the attacks on Durai Guna and Perumal Murugan. The affected groups taking law into their hands, turning jury and attacking writers was unacceptable, they said and urged the groups to have their grievances, if any, redressed in accordance with law and as per democratic norms.
