Around 700 children affected by HIV/AIDS in Coimbatore and Tirupur will be provided educational assistance through ‘Join Hands', a scheme to support people living with HIV/AIDS.
Raising funds
The scheme launched six years ago by Native Medicare Charitable Trust (NMCT), an NGO, aimed to mobilise community support to raise funds to provide free quality education to children affected by HIV/AIDS.
The organisation runs a forum called Rojakootam to provide free quality education to such children.
According to A.S. Sankaranarayanan, managing trustee of NMCT, education expenses of these children in the age group of 5-18 throughout the year will be covered under the programme.
Celebration
Free note books and school bags would be distributed to children from Coimbatore and Tirupur districts on ‘Rojakkottam Day' celebration to be held on May 13 at Minnal Mahal, Pollachi.
Through various schemes and projects, NMCT had supported around 2,000 children in the last six years, said Mr. Sankaranarayanan.
Adopt or sponsor
According to Mr. Sankaranarayanan, the donors contribute Rs. 50 every month to cover the education expenses.
Through this project, a person could adopt or sponsor a children for a year by contributing an amount of Rs.1,000- Rs.1,500.
