The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Committee on Petitions reviewed a total of 34 petitions from people in Tirupur district and redressed the grievances in as many as 26 petitions at a special sitting conducted on the Collectorate premises on Tuesday.
Committee’s chairman and MLA (Sankarapuram constituency) P. Mohan told reporters that a total of 130 petitions were received by the Committee from the district, of which only 34 representations, pertaining to demands for public amenities, were taken up in the meeting.
“The remaining representations, all concerned with individual needs of the petitioners, have been sent to the departments concerned to obtain the necessary clarifications. These petitions too will be disposed of as quickly as possible on its merits,” he added.
Public utility complex
One of the prominent petitions that came up during the review meeting was moved by P. Neelaventhan, a lawyer and state treasurer of Aathithamizhar Peravai, who highlighted the long pending demand for a public utility complex in the subordinate court complex in Tirupur city.

Earlier on the day, Mr. Mohan along with other members of the Committee - MLAs P. Ganesan (Uthirmerur constituency), R.N. Kittusamy (Modakurichi), K. Ponnusamy (Dharapuram), A. Ramasamy (Nilakottai), P. Vijayalakshmi (Sankagiri) and D. Haridoss (Tindivanam), inspected various infrastructure development works underway in the district and facilities at District Headquarters hospital. Collector M. Mathivanan, District Panchayat chairman M. Shanmugam, Mayor Visalakshi Appukutty, Deputy Mayor S. Gunasekaran, Project Director of District Rural Development Agency Sampath and Corporation Commissioner K.R.Selvaraj, accompanied the Committee members during field visit.
