Special teams of the Coimbatore City Police have identified the victim who was found murdered in a lodge at Mettupalayam on Tuesday as Venkateswari (26) of Kaniyur near Udumalpet.
It may be recalled that a man and woman checked into the lodge posing as couple. The man left the hotel after a day under the pretext of bringing back the car that was given for servicing and vanished. The hotel employees found the woman strangulated to death using a pillow to cover the face.
The police have identified the victim as a teacher and daughter of Ponnusamy. The man who accompanied the victim is suspected to be her relative from Tirupur. Investigations are on.
Miraculous escape
Three Forest Department personnel, i.e., two guards and a forester, had a miraculous escape on Thursday.
The staff had gone to Alandurai area for chasing back a herd of elephants that strayed into human habitations.
When the personnel were about to embark on a return journey to Booluvampatti, two elephants chased them. The forest personnel jumped off the motorcycles and ran into a land with lot of undulations.
The elephants smashed one of the motorcycles and left after some time.
Deployed
Forest Department has deployed anti-depredation watchers to monitor the movement of the elephant herd.
