Corporation sources say that they have asked for survey records
It is a 30-year-wait for residents of Ward 85 of the Coimbatore Corporation.
They want the Coimbatore Corporation and other departments concerned to provide the scheme road that will help them move easily to Chetty Street, Sullivan Street and areas on the east.
D. Sugapathi, a resident of Jeeva Bharathi Nagar, says if the Corporation were to take up the scheme road project, the movement of vehicles between Sundakkamuthur Road bypass and Chetty Street will be easy.
Traffic on Chetty Street, Perur Main Road and a few others in the locality will not be heavy as those proceeding towards Ukkadam, Kovaipudur and areas in the south can use the scheme road.
For the residents of Balaji Avenue, Jeeva Bharathi Nagar, Govindasamy Layout and a host of other residential colonies too the road will be a boon, says R.V. Kumar, a resident of Prabhu Nagar.
The residents, because of traffic regulations, are forced to turn left on Sullivan Street, turn right on Raja Street, take the Karuppa Gounder Street and then take a right to reach Vysial Street to reach areas on the south.
They will be able to avoid such inconveniences if the Corporation were to take up the scheme road.
It is not just the inconvenience.
The scheme road will help residents save time and petrol, complements Ward 85 Councillor Amman K. Arjunan. The scheme road, proposed very long ago, will help reduce the traffic burden on Chetty Street, Sullivan Street, Gandhi Park, and neighbouring areas and benefit over 50,000 people.
Dispute
Aside from a minor dispute regarding the road alignment, there is nothing much to do for the Corporation and other authorities concerned as land owners who would have to part with their land have volunteered to surrender the same and accept the money the government would pay.
Sources in the Coimbatore Corporation say that they were working to sort out the alignment issue and have asked for survey records.
The scheme road is very much alive and the civic body will take it up at the earliest.
