Members of Students Welfare Association of Parents and parents associations of various schools in the city staged a demonstration in front of a private minority education institution at Saibaba Colony in Coimbatore on Monday

Members of Students Welfare Association of Parents (SWAP) and parents associations of various schools in the city staged a demonstration in front of a private minority education institution at Saibaba Colony in protest against the school management’s decision to deny admission to a student to Plus-One.

The school had denied admission to the student because his parent was a member of the parents’ association, the protesters said. The student had scored 455/500 marks in Standard X. The Education Department had asked schools to give priority to their students while giving admission to Plus-One.

They said that the classes had already begun and it was too late for the boy to apply for admission in other schools.

The school management said that the school’s academic council decided not to give admission to the student because he had misbehaved in the classroom. The boy would be given admission if his parents and the parents’ associations gave in writing that the parents’ association would not interfere in any of the issues concerning the school.

The members of the association said that management was raising false accusations against the student to deny him admission.

District Education Officer, Coimbatore, R. Balamurali, visited the school on Monday. “We had asked the school to reconsider the decision to deny admission to the student. The management had sent its response and we will inform the management of our decision on Tuesday,” he said.
