Tension prevailed for almost an hour here on Monday as residents of Ward 50 along with activists of CPI blocked the entrance of the Collectorate.
They were demanding immediate issuance of house site pattas to 202 families residing on poromboke land at Pattukottai Nagar for almost 20 years.
“Despite them remitting various taxes to Corporation and in possession of ration cards, beside having power supply connection against their names, they were denied of house site pattas,” CPI district council member N. Sekar told reporters.
Cancelled
He pointed out that about 100 people in the area were given house site pattas a few years back only to be cancelled on technical grounds later. Mr. Sekar alleged that it was because of lethargy from the part of revenue officials which led to the cancellation of house site pattas given to a section of people.
The crowd moved away only after senior revenue officials promised them that their grievances would be studied through a direct survey of the area.
