District Collector M. Karunagaran has promised to improve infrastructure in Valaparai. The district administration would initiate efforts to establish a boat house, park, improve roads, bring in rope car facility, he said at the inauguration of the two-day summer festival in the hill station.

He also promised to consider the demand to extend the number of days the summer festival was held and hold it on a bigger scale.

With help from the Tourism Development Department, the district administration would identify a land to establish a park. It would also prepare a draft plan to launch rope car facility and boating in the hill town. The administration would then forward the same to the State Government for approval and funds.

As for other developments, the administration would improve the roads and better the facilities at the government hospital there.

The administration would also seek the Government's permission to distribute mixer, grinder, and other freebies this year itself to all the eligible beneficiaries. Mr. Karunagaran then appealed to the people to visit the stalls the various Government departments had established at the exhibition. It reflected the Government's achievements in the past year. The Horticulture Department conducted flower exhibition, the district police dog show and band march, Co-optex and Poompuhar had established sales depots and the youth and sports development department conducted sports events.

He also appealed to the tourists and Valparai residents to make use of the health camp the Health Department had set up.

Senior district officials, elected representatives and others participated in the function.
