Over 50 members of the Communist Party of India (Marxists) staged a demonstration near the Round Tana in Uthangarai in Krishnagiri district on Thursday demanding immediate arrest of those behind the murder of a college girl near a mango orchard at Kondampatti on January 21.
G. Kanakalakshmi (21) was brutally murdered by some persons on January 21 evening when she was proceeding to her residence from Pampar Dam.
Earlier, office-bearers of the party visited the residence of the deceased at Kondampatti and consoled her family members.
The demonstration was led by V. Govindasamy, taluk secretary, CPI(M). District Secretariat members K. Mahalingam, K.M. Ethiraj, M. Annamalai and K. Selvaraj, taluk secretary, All India Kisan Sangh, G. Muthukumar from DYFI and R. Sabapathy from Tamilnadu Vivasayigal Sangam and R. Sasikala, taluk secretary, All India Democratic Womens' Association participated.
A police official told The Hindu on Thursday that they were zeroing-in on the culprits involved in the murder of the girl.
Two special teams have been formed under R. Senthil Kumar, Additional Superintendent of Police.
Kanakalakshmi was a second year B.A. English Literature student at a at a private college in Chengam in Tiruvannamalai district.
