Twenty probationers in the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police from Tamil Nadu Police, including five women officers, underwent army orientation for two weeks at the Madras Regimental Centre, Wellington, from May 11 to 25. In the orientation training, the police officers were made familiar with basic drills and the tactics of army operations.
The training was in the areas of counter insurgency, sector formation, platoon battle drills, field signals, improvised explosive devices (IED) and counter IED drills and on basic tactics in combat. The officers were also made aware of various types of threats and how they were tackled by the army.
A release from the regimental centre states that the exercise is also aimed at strengthening the military-police cooperation and foster synergy between the two.
