The City Police are on the lookout for an army cook - Joseph alias Philip Joseph – against who charges of polygamy and have been filed. According to police, Joseph alias Philip Joseph had allegedly married four women and had also harassed one of them demanding dowry.

A native of Perianaickenpalayam here, Joseph had first married a girl belonging to Kanyakumari claiming to be an officer in the army. Once the girl got to know of his lies, she obtained a divorce through a military court.

After this, he married one of his cousins with whom he has a seven-year-old daughter. Then, he had concealed this marriage and had wedded a woman from Ganapathy with whom he had two daughters, one of whom was aged two and the other, 20 days.

Again, he had concealed all these marriages and wedded a girl from Ramanathapuram, from whom he had demanded a car as dowry. The girl found out that he was cheating all along and lodged a complaint with Ramanathapuram police.

The Ramanathapuram police on Thursday registered a case against the army cook, his mother Mary and sister Usha under sections 498 (A) (Husband or his relative subjecting wife to cruelty) and 495 (concealment of former marriage.)

All the three accused have gone into hiding. The case has been transferred to the All Women’s Police Station.
