Sai Loganathan, an anti-corruption activist, died of injuries sustained in an assault near the Avinashi Taluk Office in Tirupur district on Friday.
According to police sources, Sreedhar, 48, husband of Kathyayanee, a woman employee at the Taluk office, assaulted him after Loganathan reportedly picked up a quarrel with her.
The sources said that Loganathan went to the Taluk office on Friday morning to seek details relating to issue of patta (title deed). There he is said to have questioned Kathyayanee’s refusal to furnish details related to the issue of patta.
This led to a quarrel between them in the morning. Later in the evening, Kathyayanee’s husband Sreedhar picked up a quarrel with Loganthan which escalated and resulted in Sreedhar assaulting Loganathan on his face and abdomen. He collapsed in the impact of the assault, was rushed to a private hospital and from there to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
He died at the Hospital on Saturday. The Avinashi Police have registered a case in this connection.
