Conceding the long pending demands of Coimbatore region, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa on Thursday inaugurated the Annur and Kinathukkadavu taluks.
The district already had six taluks namely Pollachi, Valparai, Sulur, Coimbatore South, Coimbatore North and Mettupalayam.
Creation of Kinathukkadavu taluk carving out areas from Pollachi and Annur carving out areas from Coimbatore North is aimed at taking Revenue Department related services closer to people.
Till date, people from villages in and around Kinathukkadavu areas had to travel all the way to Pollachi for patta, chitta adangal, income, community, nativity and legal heir certificates and a host of other services besides applying for benefits under various welfare measures.
Similarly, people from Annur had to travel to Coimbatore for availing themselves of these services. This required spending money and time besides standing in long queues at the taluk offices.
Only recently, the Sulur taluk was created when Palladam went with Tirupur during the bifurcation of Coimbatore for forming Tirupur district.
On the administrative side also, creation of new taluks not only decentralised the work to serve people better but also ensured faster and speedier services to people in far flung areas.
Creation of new taluks would help bring down the workload on Pollachi and Coimbatore North taluks, officials said.
