Ancient temples to be renovated

May 29, 2014 10:53 am | Updated 10:53 am IST - PUDUKOTTAI:

Six ancient temples located in the coastal villages in the district will be renovated through donors’ participation.

These temples are located in three villages in Manamelkudi block. They are dedicated to Sri Sridhareswarar and Sri Sundararaja Perumal in Vellur village, Sri Varadaraja Perumal and Sri Agastheeswarar in Siruvarai village and Sri Anjael Perumal and Sri Viswanathaswami in Manjakudi village.

District Collector C. Manoharan led a group of officials and inspected all these temples on Tuesday and ascertained their glory from the local people. Jagannathan, assistant commissioner, Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department, accompanied the Collector.

Mr. Manoharan assured the people of the village that the district administration would take steps on a two-pronged strategy to renovate these temples. An expert committee would be formed to inspect these temples and for recommending to the government for adequate funds for renovation.

A special estimate for various renovation works to be taken up at each and every shrine would be prepared, the Collector said.
