With the works relating to installation of Rs 1.25 crore tensile fabric canopies at the Coimbatore Airport nearing completion, the airport is all set to get a new facelift.
The tensile fabric canopies with a novel design are aimed at providing protection to the visitors from soaring mercury levels and rain.
The design adds to the look of the departure and arrival hall terminal buildings.
Airport Director K. Peter Abraham said that the canopies are being installed at a cost of Rs 1.2 crore.
The work relating to installation of canopies is already over in terms of the arrival terminal building and the ongoing works in front of the departure terminal will be over in another month.
The provision of canopies is part of a Rs. 80 crore comprehensive modernisation work taken up to improve passenger amenities, capacity augmentation and for providing facelift to the airport, Mr.Peter Abraham said.
The two aero bridges from Hyderabad are expected to reach Coimbatore shortly and they would be commissioned in another 100 to 120 days enabling easy transit of passengers from the first floor of the terminal building to the aircraft and vice-versa.
The capacity augmentation in the departure hall is almost nearing completion making additional space available for passengers.
Growth
Increasing the space at the terminal building was a must, as the airport was witnessing a year-on-year passenger growth of 12 per cent and revenue growth of 10 per cent, he added.
