AIADMK functionary’s son kidnapped

M. Shankar, 30, son of AIADMK leader and chairman of the Edapadi Panchayat Union A. Madesh, was allegedly kidnapped by unidentified persons on Sunday.

According to the complaint Mr. Madesh lodged with the Poolampatti police, the kidnappers demanded Rs. 2 crore to free Shankar.

Mr. Madesh, who is also district president of the Jayalalithaa Peravai, told the police that on Sunday morning Shankar told him that he was going to Jalakandapuram to collect a courier. “He tried calling up Shankar a couple of hours later, but his mobile phone was switched off.”

He also told the police that in the afternoon he got a call from an unknown number saying that Shankar was in their custody and demanded the ransom.

Mr. Madesh also petitioned the Superintendent of Police of Namakkal, S.R. Senthil Kumar who is in-charge of Salem, seeking his intervention to rescue his son.The police registered a case under Section 364 (A) (kidnapping for ransom) of the Indian Penal Code. Mr. Senthil Kumar told The Hindu that eight special teams have been formed to rescue Shankar and to nab the offenders.
