‘AIADMK, DMK not qualified to speak about prohibition’

May 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:33 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Both the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam were not qualified to speak about prohibition, Communist Party of India State Secretary R. Mutharasan said here on Wednesday.

Talking to reporters in the midst of his campaign in support of the Peoples Welfare Alliance candidate for Coimbatore South, C. Padmanabhan, he said that the voters who were looking for a change, an alternative would not buy the promises of the AIADMK and DMK, which had only improved upon one another liquor policy.

The two parties were equally corrupt and guilty of misgoverning the State. Now the parties were under impression that they could win their way to victory through money and muscle power, which would only remain a dream. Opinion poll favouring one or the other party too was part of their grand scheme of things to woo the voters.

Referring to the cash seizure in Karur, Mr. Mutharasan said that though there were reports that around Rs. 500 crore unaccounted cash was seized, the officials had only accounted for Rs. 4 crore.

Now the news was that Anbunathan, the person from whom the cash and machines were seized, was missing. The Election Commission of India should investigate the issue and come out with the truth to restore confidence among the voters that the ensuing election would be free and fair.

He then campaigned in Gandhipuram, Singanallur in the Coimbatore South Assembly constituency. He later campaigned in Kannappan Nagar in the Coimbatore North Assembly constituency and Narasimhanaickenpalayam in Kavundampalayam Assembly constituency.
