All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam nominee for the Coimbatore mayoral election P. Rajkumar on Monday began his campaign from Edayar Street here Mr. Rajkumar spoke about the development package announced by the State Government for Coimbatore.
Mr. Rajkumar reminded the voters about his three-time stint in the Corporation Council and two-time administrative experience as the North Zone Chairman. This is just to tell people that he was aware of their problems and had been working with them to solve those.
He met voters on Thomas Street, R.G. Street, Thiagi Kumaran Street, Sukhrawarpet, Telugu Street, Big Bazaar Street, and its neighbouring areas. In the afternoon, he met voters in Ukkadam, Oppanakkara Street, Theppakulam, Flower Market, and Weavers’ Colony.
At the start of the campaign, Minister for Municipal Administration and Water Supply S.P. Velumani addressed the voters. On Monday, the number of nominations stood at naught. Corporation sources said that they had so far issued 12 nomination papers.
On the day, officials from the Town Planning wing of the Corporation removed hoarding and whitewashed walls that had graffiti of political parties.
Officials said that they had removed hoarding and banners at 78 places in all the five zones and whitewashed walls at 30 places.
On Sunday, the officials had received a complaint over phone regarding poll violation. That was attended to immediately. On Monday, there was no complaint, they added.
