Following the overwhelming response for the agriculture seminar conducted by The Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry Coimbatore last year, the second edition of Uzhave Thalai seminar will be held at Hindustan College of Arts and Science on June 23, said president of the chamber, Vanitha Mohan.

“Though we have umpteen natural resources like fertile land, water, and other technological advancements, we still lack in agriculture production compared to countries that have inadequate rainfall and less natural resources,” she said.

The seminar has been organised with a view to attract youngsters to organic farming at a time when even children of farmers were moving to urban areas looking for employment.

The chamber was planning to take 50 persons to agriculture farms of every month, and they would become ambassadors for Uzhave Thalai in future, Ms. Mohan said.

C. Dorairaj, treasurer of the Chamber, said that the programme will have sessions on soil health, water conservation, pest management and disease control, integrated and multi-layer farming, and farm products.

Already 450 have registered as participants for the seminar. After attending the seminar last year, the Rapid Action Force in Chettipalli undertook farming activities in the available lands on the campus last year, he added.

Mani Sundar, an organic farmer, said that the participants will be given a guide containing easy ways of undertaking organic farming. It will have useful information on organic farming, he said.
