All the 13 blocks in the district will soon get an integrated agriculture extension centre, according to a plan proposed by the Agriculture Department.
These centres would bring agriculture, horticulture, agriculture marketing, agriculture engineering, and seed certification departments under one roof.
Earlier, farmers have to go to different locations to get the services.
Now Gudimangalam, Pongalur, Uthukuli, Mulanur, Udumalpet, Madathukulam, and Kundadam blocks have these centres.
The new centres will come up at Tirupur, Avinashi, Dharapuram, Palladam, Vellakoil, and Kangayam blocks, said officials.
Joint Director of Agriculture Mohamed Iqbal said that these centres would help technology transfer and application of scientific research uniformly across the district.
The centres have facilities to train farmers on different aspects of farming and mechanisation, give consultation on key matters, and space to store seeds and bio-fertilizers that are meant for distribution at subsidised rates.
With the credit flow to agriculture sector is projected to grow by 4.29 % this fiscal, many experts feel that the creation of sophisticated facilities for extension activities would compliment the efforts to increase the farmers, income.
