An age-old Vanni tree that was uprooted near Kanakkampalayalam, near here, was saved after a few nature lovers transplanted it to a new location on Saturday.

Expert opinion

The volunteers of Green N Clean, Green Movement, NIFT-TEA Knitwear Institute and few other groups took the tree from the Kanakkampalayam-Perumanallur Road to a campus situated about two km away, after a seven-hour operation. Sources in the Green N Clean, told The Hindu that the exact age of the tree would be ascertained by experts and forest department officials only on Saturday, though the villagers state that the tree was around 300-years-old.
