Adulterated tea seized

Tamil Nadu Food Safety and Drug Administration Department (Food Safety Wing) officials seized more than 2,500 kg of adulterated tea from a house on Bharathiar Street at Seeranaickenpalayam here on Tuesday.

A team of five Food Safety Officers led by Designated Officer R. Kathiravan conducted inspection.

They had mixed chemical products that gave a darker colour to the tea. The total value of the seized products was estimated to be around Rs.50,000.

Samples taken

The officials have taken samples of the product. It would be tested at the Government Food Safety Laboratory here. Once the tests confirm that the seized items were adulterated products, it would be destroyed at the Corporation Compost Yard at Vellalore.
