Thursday was a red letter day for students and staff of the Adi-Dravidar Primary School at Ranganathapuram near here.
Led by the Governor Rotary District 3202 E.K.Sagadhevan, members of the Rotary Club of Ketti Valley trooped to the school located in a remote place off the Ooty-Kotagiri road and signed an agreement to adopt the school and convert it into a model institution.
Initiative
Pointing out that the school with about thirty boys and girls studying in classes one to five would be in the care of the Rotary Club of Ketti Valley for the next five years, Mr.Sagadhevan told The Hindu that the initiative was part of Rotary's ‘Vazhi Kaati' scheme.
Already it has been given a face lift and provided with basic amenities like drinking water.
Listing the other schemes for the school in the pipe line, he said that a play ground would be provided and the children made computer literate.
The Assistant Governor N.Chandrashekar said that the Club has decided to adopt Ranganathapuram village also.
Focus would be on making the residents live in harmony with nature.
The possibility of putting up a community hall there would be explored, it was pointed out.
