Environmental activist S. Mugilan, who is lodged in Palayamkottai Central Prison, appeared before the Justice S. Rajeswaran Inquiry Commission probing the violence during the jallikattu agitation at its sitting here on Friday.

Mr. Mugilan, who was arrested by the police for participating in the jallikattu agitation at Alanganallur in January this year, had filed affidavit with the Commission.

Following summons issued by the Commission, Mr. Mugilan appeared on Friday.

Earlier, Mr. Mugilan who was arrested by the Tirunelveli district police last month for participating in a groundwater related agitation and has been lodged in Palayamkottai prison, was brought to Salem by a police escort party.

After reaching here in the early hours of the day, he was lodged in the Salem Central Prison from where he was escorted to the Commission’s make-shift court functioning in the Hasthampatti circuit house.

Another activist Rajeswari, who too was arrested during the jallikattu agitation in Alanganallur, also appeared before the Commission.
