October 10, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Vellalore resident J. Daniel has obtained 32 kg of documents under the Right to Information Act from the Vellalore Town Panchayat.

In April, Mr. Daniel had applied for documents relating to the construction site, building plan approval and others the town panchayat had approved of between August 2014 and April 2015.

He was suspicious that rules were violated.

After the local body failed to furnish the documents, Mr. Daniel went on appeal to the Assistant Director, Town Panchayats, who said that the Vellalore Town Panchayat must furnish the documents to Mr. Daniel free of cost. Following the order, the local body finally sent him the documents all 32 kg of it from India Post on Wednesday. The town panchayat administration is said to have spent close to Rs. 9,000 for photocopying the documents and another Rs. 1,100 for sending those by post. The present Executive Officer Suresh Kumar was unavailable for comment.
