April 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The Social Awareness Movement petitioned the city police commissioner on Thursday seeking legal action against fraudulent firms functioning as job consultancies. The movement’s president J.D. Socrates claimed that many such firms were functioning in the city.

The consultancies attracted unemployed youth and those aspiring for a better pay throughwall posters and pamphlets.

Based on the financial ability of aspirants the firms charged a few thousand rupees as registration and processing charge.

He claimed that many such firms functioned in Gandhipuram and that they used the names of leading firms, claiming that there were vacancies in those firms. He added that firms had a network including persons employed in leading companies who spoke with the job aspirants. The aspirants neither got a job nor the money that they paid the consultants.

He submitted a list of 22 firms with address and contact details, claiming that they were fraudulent firms.
