Accused in abduction case arrested

The special police team on Sunday took into custody Akbar Ali, the main accused in the abduction of a woman industrialist of Tiruchengode last Thursday. Akbar Ali was working as a driver with Sharmila Banu (40), running an industrial unit in the town.

He, along with three of his accomplices, including a woman, allegedly kidnapped Ms. Banu while returning home on Thursday afternoon. They injected medicine and made Ms. Banu unconscious and took away cash and jewellery, before fleeing after abandoning her in the car.

A special team formed to investigate the crime, nabbed three persons – A. Fazil (22), his wife Yasmin (22) of Chinna Ammapalayam in Salem city, and 17-year-old brother of Yasmin.

Meanwhile, Akbar Ali, who was on the run was arrested by the police at the New Bus Stand in Tiruchengode town on Sunday morning. He was waiting to board a bus when the police rounded him up, police sources said.
