The Forest Department has readied abundant stock of saplings in the district for planting during the rainy season.
At the Vellode nursery, several thousands of saplings with heights varying from one to five feet have been kept ready for distribution. Most of the saplings raised by the Forest Department will be planted in rural parts of the district through the District Rural Development Agency, it is learnt.
Since the DRDA has brought the activity of planting saplings under the ambit of Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, the survival rate will be strong, official sources said.
Planting of the saplings will coincide with the rainy season ahead.
Though the district receives more rainfall from the Northeast monsoon, planting of the saplings will be carried out right from the start of southwest monsoon, the sources said.
