The woman from Saibaba colony area of the city had delivered the baby on December 30 and left the hospital the same night, abandoning the child in the maternity ward, Hospital RMO Dr. Sivaprakasam told reporters here.

The child was kept in the baby centre of the hospital and was handed over to ‘Peace Society’, an NGO, this morning.

This is the first abandoned baby to be handed over to an NGO this year. Six abandoned children were left in the care of different NGOs last year, Dr. Sivaprakasam said.
