Aam Aadmi Party’s Coimbatore candidate Pon Chandran has sought donations on Facebook to run his campaign. He made the appeal after making sure his candidature was accepted. On his Facebook wall, he has said that to step up the campaign, which he calls a “Dharma Yudh for the cause of the common man”, he banked on the people’s will and continued support.
He wanted support to meet the expenditure for pamphleteering, vehicles to campaign and food for the volunteers. Asking donors to make the donation online for the Coimbatore constituency, he said that the amount would also attract Income Tax exemption. Mr. Chandran said that thus far he had spent around Rs. 3 lakh and planned to spend another Rs. 30 – 35 lakh. “I plan to use small goods carriers to move around to meet voters, tap the FM radio channels and engage dance troupes.” He, however, need not spend on the dance troupes as the troupe members were AAP volunteers.
His campaign team was engaged in developing content for the radio campaign and recording campaign songs. Using television channels for campaign was out of question due to budget constraints. As for using the radio channels, his team was in talks with a few, he said. “The campaign will be something like the ‘Pulli Raja’ advertisement that catches public attention.”
