Multi-purpose auditorium to be opened on April 6
Having for long played a significant role in ensuring the economic well being of this hill station, particularly on the farm front, the Vokkaligara community of The Nilgiris is all set to help overcome a major shortcoming on the infrastructure front.
Come April 6, a multi-purpose auditorium put up by the Nilgiri Mavatta Vokkaligara Sangam on Peytons road here would be dedicated to this vacation destination by Sri Nirmalanandanatha Swami, head of the Sri Adhichunchangiri Mahasamsthana Math, Mandya, and inaugurated by O.Armugasamy, founder, Shree Vijayalakshmi Charitable Trust, Coimbatore.
Pointing out that it had taken about six years and around Rs. 4 crore to put up the facility, Sangam president B.Krishnamoorthy told The Hindu here on Monday that it was an ambitious project of the community which had developed deep roots in The Nilgiris.
He said that it could accommodate about 2,000 persons.
The mandapam would be named after late N.Giriappa Gowder, a pioneering member of the community of The Nilgiris, said Sangam secretary K.Sathish Kumar.
