A treat for silk lovers

Silk weavers from various parts of the country are displaying their products at an exhibition in Coimbatore.

The National Handloom Development Corporation Limited has organised Silk Fab, an exhibition-cum-sale of silk fabrics from various places in India, at Padmavathi Ammal Cultural Centre on Avinashi Road here. The event that began on Monday will be on till December 30.

Sixty-eight agencies belonging to States such as Assam, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Delhi, Jammu & Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal are exhibiting their products.

No middlemen

All the products are displayed by the weavers themselves and no middlemen are involved.

The products on display include sarees, salwars and stole made of silk types such as Moonga, Kosa, Patola, Matka,Tassar and a wide range of other varieties.

An initiative of the Corporation, Silk Fab exhibition offers a wider market for hand woven silk products and helps the weavers learn more about the changing trends in consumer preferences, according to the organisers.
