Sabareeswaran Krishnan, from a village near Pollachi, is a proud youth today on what he has reached and that too because of untiring efforts. It was a tireless journey from nothing to this proud moment for Mr. Krishnan.

He was selected for internship in a world renowned cancer research institute in Germany.

Mr. Krishnan, pursuing final year of the five-year integrated M.Sc Life Sciences course in Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli, got the opportunity to undergo a two-month internship at the Max-Delbruk Centre for Molecular Medicine in Berlin, Germany.

Poor family background and difficult situations did not deter him from pursuing his studies from KG to Plus Two with the help of a philanthropist, who was running the school. His father K. Krishnan was working as a watchman, and mother K. Devi was working as daily wage earner. He lost his father in the midst of his Plus Two examination in 2013. In spite of this, he studied well and scored 1027 marks with the help of the private school management headed by Mani Nachiappan and his wife Vijayalakshmi Nachiappan in Pollachi. He was mentored by the school management and his friends to pursue M.Sc Life Sciences course. During the course, he got an opportunity to do internship at ICAR-Central Institute for Cotton Research, where he worked on the project ‘Plant genome analysis of Gossypium species’ in 2015. Later, he did internship at the Mahatma Gandhi Doerenkamp Centre, Noida, and learnt the basic techniques and concepts in “cancer biology and in-vitro animal cell culture techniques.” He can do internship at MDC any time between January and July 15, 2018.

He was struggling to mobilise funds for his travel and day-to-day expenses during his stay in Berlin. A doctor with whom he worked during his leisure time in Tiruchirappalli donated ₹1 lakh. In the meantime, his well-wishers and friends mobilised further funds.

After all these, he faced trouble for getting visa in the absence of a letter from the Employment Department of the German government that he is applying for visa purely for internship purpose and not visiting for employment. After submitting the certificate, he got the visa on Thursday.

Mani Chinnasamy, a well-wisher said “the extraordinary effort and hard work of the youth has yielded result finally. His tireless efforts in acquiring knowledge should be inspirational to others.”
