The Car-Free Sundays (CFS), an initiative of The Hindu Tamil with the Coimbatore Corporation and Coimbatore City Traffic Police as partners, turned out to be a place for celebrating special occasions too.
Students of Bharathi Matriculation Higher Secondary School chose the CFS zone on NSR Road to celebrate the birthday of one of their friends and also Friendship Day.
J. Vidhushri of Class XI said that her friends chose to cut cake and celebrate the events there because it was a happening place and they wanted to grab as many eye balls as possible.
A friend of hers added that on busy, vehicle-filled roads they would not be able to do so.
Fifth standard student S. Lavanya said that she loved participating in CFS because she loved dancing.
Dashmeet Singh, a third standard student, said he was here the first time because his friend and neighbour Suriya Dinesh wanted him to participate.
The 21st week celebration saw the participants witness ‘Nadakkalam Covai’, an initiative to make Coimbatore pedestrian-friendly, skit and magic shows.
