Those who came to schools at Varadarajapuram and Uppilipalayam to register names on National Population Register had a pleasant surprise — a cup of tea and snacks absolutely free of cost.
“What was attractive is not that we need not pay anything for it but we are saved from losing our place in the queue,” said a happy visitor. The tea is prepared at the houses of K. Sethuraj, Councillor, and P. Kali Rajan, branch president of Then Maanila Viswakarma Munnetra Nala Sangham. Snacks are purchased. Close to 350 cups of tea was provided between 9.30am and 5.30pm, said Mr. Kali Rajan.
They arranged lunch for persons manning the camp. Srinivasan, a former officer, said that officials should provide tokens and registration should be done on the basis of token numbers. People should be allowed to apply online for these tokens. Once they get the token they should be asked to come at the designated time.
This would help do away with long queues, he added.
