It was Kongu samayal on fifth day of Coimbatore Vizha

On the fifth day of Coimbatore Vizha, a range of Kongu region dishes were cooked at The Residency Towers as part of a food festival and more than 100 people got to learn about terrace gardening.

According to a press release from the organisers, as part of the Kongu samayal food festival at The Residency Towers, Chef Akilandeswari of Dharapuram presented a range of Kongu region dishes including kollu idly, arakeerai kadasal, Pollachi kaima kozhambu, thuvaram paruppu sambar, and Pallipalayam kozhi roast.

Terrace gardening

With organic terrace gardening becoming popular, the importance of organic farming was explained by T. Kanagaraj, director of Bio Blooms Agro India.

He said beginners can create a small garden on the terrace at a reasonable cost. Organically grown vegetables can be raised in containers even by those who live in apartments.

A heritage walk was also held on Tuesday and R. Jagadeesan of the Vanavarayar Foundation guided the participants through a walk that started at Clock Tower. The walk was through Oppanakara Street, Vysial Street, KG Street, Raja Street and Five Corner.

He explained the reason behind the names of streets and the importance of some of the old buildings.
