The Minister for Electricity, Prohibition and Excise, P. Thangamani, said that 873 works to the tune of ₹20.58 crore was being carried out in the district to solve drinking water problems.
A review meeting on the prevailing drought and drinking water supply problems was held at the Collectorate here on Saturday in which Principal Secretary and Commissioner of Revenue Department K. Sathyagopal and Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board Dheeraj Kumar, District Collector M. Asia Mariam, and Minister for Social Welfare and Nutritious Noon Meal Programme V. Saroja participated.
Mr. Thangamani said that 88 works at a cost of ₹2.81 crore in municipalities, 72 works at a cost of ₹1.02 crore in town panchayats and 713 works at a cost of ₹16.74 crore in panchayats were being carried out to improve drinking water supply. Also, Tamil Nadu Water Supply and Drainage Board has underatken 17 works at a cost of ₹2.17 crore to provide drinking water to the people. He said that a total of 890 works at a cost of ₹22.72 crore was being carried out with funds from disaster management, panchayat union general fund, MP and MLA local area development fund and other sources.
