85 arrested for gambling

The police busted nine gambling dens in the district from which 85 persons were arrested and 20 motorcycles, two mopeds and about Rs. 1 lakh were seized.

The raids were conducted from Saturday evening till the early hours of Monday.

The accused were arrested from areas falling under Kundadam, Vellakoil, Tirupur North, Avinashi, Madathukulam, Komaralingam and Amaravthy police station limits, all under Section 12 of Tamil Nadu Gambling Act.

Killed in accident

R. Senthil Kumar (27), a native of Pudukottai district, was killed when the motorcycle he was riding skidded along Tirupur-Kangayam highway on Sunday. C. Sathyiaraj (18), who was riding pillion, sustained injuries in the accident. He was admitted to Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital.

The Avinashi police have registered a case and are investigating.
