Returning officers of the Coimbatore and Pollachi Lok Sabha constituencies rejected 58 nominations on Monday — the day of scrutiny. Returning Officer, Coimbatore, Archana Patnaik rejected 25 of the 50 nominations filed.
Of those 11 are that of representatives of political parties, and the rest Independents.
Returning Officer, Pollachi, K. Karpakam rejected 33 of the 52 nominations filed. The last date for withdrawing nominations is April 9. On the day, the officials would allot symbols and release the final list of candidates in the fray.
The nominations of five candidates among the 32 in Tirupur Lok Sabha constituency were rejected on Monday after scrutiny.
5 rejected in TirupurThe scrutiny was carried out by Returning Officer G. Govindaraj at the Collectorate here on Monday in the presence of Sanoj Kumar Jha, the General Election Observer, and the candidates, or their representatives.
“The nominations of substitute candidates are automatically dismissed once the nomination papers of the main candidates of the respective political parties are accepted,” said election cell officials.
The nomination papers of K. T. Mahalingam, All India Trinamool Congress, was rejected as it lacked the stipulated number of proposers.
Of the 27 valid candidates, 15 were Independents.
Six out in The NilgirisOf the 16 candidates who had filed nomination papers, six were rejected.
There was an objection to the community certificate produced by the Aam Aadmi Party candidate M.T. Rani, that produced by T. Eshwaran of the Makkal Maanadu Katchi. Both were given time till 5pm to produce fresh certificates. The fresh certificates were accepted.
