3 killed, 34 hurt as buses collide

Three persons were killed and 34 others received grievous injuries in a collision involving two buses on the Bhavani - Anthiyur main road in Erode district on Tuesday night.

Police said a private bus was on its way to Anthiyur carrying workers from a garment manufacturing unit, when it collided with a State Transport Corporation bus at Rettaikaradu village, about 15 km away from Bhavani, around 9.30 pm.

Two persons died on the spot while another succumbed to wounds at a hospital. The identity of the deceased was yet to be established.

The injured were rushed to the government hospitals in Anthiyur, Bhavani and Erode. The traffic on the Bhavani – Anthiyur road was affected for more than two hours following the accident. Recovery vans were pressed into service and the two-ill fated vehicles were removed from the road after two hours.

Police registered a case. Further investigation is on.
