In the eye camp the Coimbatore City Traffic Police conducted on Monday, as many as 250 autorickshaw drivers participated, said sources. The Police had organised the camp in association with the Aravind Eye Hospital at the police community hall as part of the Road Safety Week celebrations.
Drivers from various autorickshaw stands participated in the camp. They underwent preliminary test like blood pressure check before going in for eye test. They were tested for glaucoma, cataract, short or long sight, eye pressure, etc.
Those drivers who were found with cataract were referred to the Hospital for free surgery. And those who had other complications were asked to undergo operation under the State Government’s health insurance scheme.
Those in need of spectacles were given glasses at subsidised rate, the sources said. Earlier, Commissioner of Police A.K. Viswanathan inaugurated the camp in the presence of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, T.K. Rajasekaran.
Assistant Commissioner of Police-Traffic, East, S. Ramakrishnan, Inspector K. Udayakumar and others were present.
