21 injured in bus accident

As many as 21 passengers of a private bus were injured when the bus hit the rear of another private bus at Kinathukadavu near Pollachi in the district on Tuesday.

According to the police, two private buses left from Coimbatore for Pollachi during the early hours of Tuesday. One of the buses tried to overtake the other near Thamaraikulam around 8.15 a.m. However, due to insufficient space on the road, the bus hit the rear of the another bus going ahead of it. In the event, twenty-one passengers including nine women and six children in the bus suffered minor injuries. They were treated as out-patients at the Government Hospital in Pollachi.

Kinathukadavu police registered a case against bus driver K. Moorthy of Dharapuram. Sections 279 (Rash driving) and 337 (Causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC have been invoked.
