150 patent applications under process

About 150 applications for patents in different fields are being processed at the Patent Facilitation Centre, a top official said on Wednesday.

The applications are being processed through 60 patent information cells across the country, R. Saha, Director, Patent Facilitation Centre, Departent of science and Technology, Delhi, said.

He was participating in the Patent Awareness Workshop, organised by Bharathiar University here.

However, majority of the applications were from Pharmaceuticals sector, he said, adding there should be more applications from chemical, steel and textile sectors, which offers better scope and opportunities.

Dr. S. Vincent, Secretary, Tamil Nadu State Council for Science and Technology, said the cell in Bharathiar University was sixth in the State and 50 applications were under processing in these cells.
