1,000 saplings planted at Vellalore dumpyard

As many as 1,000 saplings were planted around the Coimbatore Corporation compost yard at Vellalore on Wednesday. This was part of a ‘Green Coimbatore’ initiative undertaken by Rotary Clubs of Coimbatore Green City, Central, Heritage, Downtown, Sai City and Coimbatore Corporation.

According to Rotary Club of Coimbatore Green City President B.A. Joseph, another 2,000 would be planted around the area in June.

A drip irrigation system had been put in place.

P.P. Pauly, Commandant of the Central Reserve Police Force’s Rapid Action Force 105 Battalion, took part. The Iruttupallam District Forest Office provided the tree saplings.

Rotary clubs of Coimbatore Central President T.C. Vidyasankar, Heritage President V. Venugnam, Downtown President Godwin Maria Viswasam and Sai City President V. Chandrasekar took part in the function along other office bearers.
