The Coimbatore City Police took 10 persons including the Adhi Tamilar Viduthalai Munnani State organiser Ravi Kumar in preventive custody for attempting to show black flags during Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader M. Karunanidhi’s visit to the city on Saturday.

The former Chief Minister addressed an election meeting at VOC grounds on Saturday.

According to the police, the organisation was protesting against the DMK for not giving seats to candidates from the Arunthathiyar community in the Lok Sabha elections. They also protested against the party’s decision to grant seats to the Viduthalai Chiruthaikal Katchi (VCK) and Puthiya Tamizhagam, which oppose granting exclusive reservation to Arunthathiyar community. The arrested were released after the election meeting.
