10 booked for rioting

The District Rural Police have charged ten persons including five women for rioting and harassing a woman.

According to the police, D. Jayalakshmi of Pallepalayam near Sirumugai had a property dispute with her relative Gopal who was residing near her house. While Jayalakshmi was installing a wire fence on her land on February 16, Gopal and nine others allegedly trespassed into her land and destroyed the fence. They also assaulted her. Following a direction from the Mettupalayam Judicial Magistrate Court, the Sirumugai Police on Friday registered a case against ten persons. They include Gopal, his wife G. Suseela, their son G. Damu, Arumugam, N. Pettammal, N. Ravi, his wife R. Rajalakshmi, N. Palanisamy, his wife P. Kavitha and A. Manimekalai. Sections 147 (rioting), 148 (Rioting, armed with deadly weapons), 294 (b)(uttering obscene words in public places), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 427 (mischief causing damage) and 506 (i)(criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code read with Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Women Harassment Act have been invoked.
